CHIP provides low-cost insurance for children whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford other health insurance. Children are covered from birth through age 19.

State of Texas Access Reform
(STAR)

Beginning in 2006, STAR is the new State and Federal Medicaid that provides free insurance to qualified children and adults who might otherwise go without. Adults are covered for life and children are covered until age 21.
